Romney Calls Ryan “the Next President" of the U.S.

President Obama made the same mistake when he introduced Joe Biden as his running mate four years ago.

Against a backdrop of the battleship USS Wisconsin, the months-long search for a running mate came to an end. But even as every detail seemed to be taken care, Mitt Romney could not avoid a small but embarrassing gaffe. When he introduced Rep. Paul Ryan, Romney asked the audience to “join me, in welcoming the next president of the United States, Paul Ryan.” (Video embedded below.) He later corrected himself when Ryan took to the podium, reports the New York Times.

“Every now and then I’m known to make a mistake,” Romney said smiling. “I did not make a mistake with this guy.”

Romney should feel some comfort in knowing he's not the first to make the mistake. President Obama also called Joe Biden "the next president," although he quickly caught and corrected himself. (Video below.)
