The 74-year-old mother of Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. was found Wednesday morning after being abducted at gunpoint the day before, CNN reports.
Vi Ripken was located, unharmed, near her home in Harford County, Md. at 6:35 a.m. on Wednesday, shortly after police issued a media alert about her abduction. The Washington Post reports that an unidentified man armed with a handgun showed up at her home on Tuesday morning and forced her into his car.
Details of the incident are still emerging, and little is known of Ripken’s abductor. Police in the area are said to be on the lookout for a white male in his late-30s or early-40s, last seen wearing a light-colored shirt, camouflage pants and eyeglasses.
In a statement to CNN affiliate WBAL, the Ripken family said that "this has been a very trying time for our family, but we are grateful and relieved that mom is back with us, safe and healthy."
