President Obama's re-election campaign is reaching out to the Latino community with new Spanish-language ads touting the benefits of the president's health care and economic policies. The ads' star? The "Spanish Oprah."
Popular talk show host Cristina Saralegui takes center stage in the 30-second spots that are slated to run in Hispanic-heavy battlegrounds states Nevada, Colorado, and Florida, the Associated Press reports. The Univisión host walks viewers through how Hispanic families will benefit from Obamacare (assuming, of course, it's still there after the Supreme Court gets done with it).
Saralegui endorsed the president on Monday after his recent announcement that he will relax deportation laws for young illegal immigrants. The Hispanic vote "could very well decide the next election," she said, before addressing the president: "You’ve had our back, and now, with utmost respect and admiration, I have yours."
Obama's latest ad comes on the heels of a Mitt Romney's own Spanish-language ad, which was a rehashed version of last week’s English-language spot slamming the president's quote that the private sector is "doing fine."
Both candidates will appeal to Hispanic voters in person this week at the annual conference of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials.
