The hunt is on for the groom of a woman found dead just hours after their wedding Friday night, still in her dress from the reception.
The woman, 26-year-old Estrella Carrera, was found at her home in a suburb of Chicago, dead in her bathtub. Carrera was reportedly stabbed to death, still wearing a sequined dress she likely wore to her own wedding reception. Her husband of just hours, Arnoldo Jimenez, is now being hunted by more than 30 law enforcement agencies, the Associated Press reports. Police and the FBI are sorting through more than 100 tips related to the manhunt.
As CBS News explains, Carerra had kept her Friday afternoon marriage to Jimenez a secret even from most of her family. She invited a few friends to a party Friday night without saying why. Carerra's two children, aged 2 and 9, were staying with her father while she celebrated her wedding. Her body was found after she failed to pick up her kids on Sunday, and her relatives became concerned.
Jimenez is the father of her two-year-old son. According to the AP, Carerra's family disapproved of their relationship. Soon after her body was discovered, Jimenez's sister called Carerra's relatives and told them that she'd spoken to her brother, who said he'd been in a "bad fight" with Carerra and left her bleeding. Jimenez was charged with first-degree murder in Carerra's death.
Jimenez reportedly had a history of violence towards Carerra, according to her family. He is 6 feet, 220 pounds, and last seen driving a black 2006 Maserati. Police don't believe him to be a danger to others. Because Carerra's body wasn't found until Sunday, he had an extra day to flee the scene.
