Everyone knew it was going to do well, but the numbers have still managed to surprise Hollywood. The summer movie season got off to an amazing start as Avengers is expected to take in $200.3 million domestically during its opening weekend. That makes it by far the biggest opening weekend ever, easily beating Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 that took in $169.2 million, notes the Hollywood Reporter.

The movie opened earlier overseas and has already brought in $441.5 million internationally, raising its worldwide revenue to $641.8 million in less than two weeks, points out the Associated Press. Deadline’s Nikki Finke contends the domestic total from the weekend could actually be higher, saying that Disney is being overly conservative in its estimates.
