Biden: Romney Would Have America "Go It Alone"

The second half of the Obama-Biden 2012 ticket on Thursday continued to do the heavy lifting on the campaign trail.

Speaking to New York University, Vice President Joe Biden delivered his latest in a string of policy speeches aimed at contrasting President Obama and Mitt Romney. The focus this time: foreign policy.

Biden blasted the presumptive GOP nominee for being "totally out of touch" with the American people and warning that, if elected, Romney would return the nation "to the past we have worked so hard to move beyond."

"Americans know that we cannot afford to go back to the future," Biden said. "Back to a foreign policy that would have America go it alone, shout to the world you're either with us or against us, lash out first and ask the hard questions later, if at all."

The Romney campaign offered a pre-buttal of sorts to Biden's remarks on a conference call with reporters shortly before he took the stage (but after his remarks were released), calling the vice president's take on recent history a "fantasy narrative," ABC News reports.

As Reuters notes, the Obama team hopes to make the president's foreign policy record a key pillar of his reelection campaign. Biden offered up what is sure to become a familiar refrain on the topic before the campaign is done: "Osama Bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive."
