Oikos University Gunman Targeted Specific Administrator

UPDATE: One L. Goh, the man suspected of killing seven people at Oikos University on Monday morning, was reportedly looking for a particular female administrator before he went on his shooting spree.

Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan told ABC News that when Goh couldn’t find this administrator, he pushed a secretary into a classroom and asked students to line up. When some students refused to comply, Goh began shooting.

The victims were six women and one man, ranging in age from 21 to 40 and originally from Korea, Nigeria, and Nepal, according to police. Three others were also reportedly injured.

Jordan also indicated that Goh was cooperating with the investigation but “has not been particularly remorseful” for his actions.

Tuesday, April 3 at 9:52 a.m.: The suspected gunman in Monday's deadly shooting at a small, religious university in Oakland, Calif. has been named: 43-year-old former student One L. Goh.

The gunman killed at least seven people and injured three more after opening fire Monday morning in a classroom at Oikos University, an Asian Christian vocational school. The shooting spree led to an intense manhunt for the killer on and around the university campus.

Police Chief Howard Jordan told the Associated Press that Goh, a Korean national, surrendered about an hour after the shooting at a Safeway about three miles away from the scene. The weapon hasn't been recovered, but officials have enough ballistics evidence to know that a handgun was used.

On Good Morning America Tuesday, Jordan said that Goh was thousands of dollars in debt, held a grudge against the school, and had two deaths in his immediate family last year.

Jordan explained Goh's motive:

He was also upset that students in the past, when he attended the school, mistreated him, disrespected him, and things of that nature. He was having, we believe, some behavioral problems at the school and was asked to leave several months ago.

We've learned that this was a very chaotic, calculated and determined gentleman that came there with a very specific intent to kill people, and that's what his motive was and that's what he carried out.

Monday, April 2: At least seven people were killed Monday and three others injured when a gunman opened fire at a religious university in Northern California.

Local police confirmed the death toll to KCBS in San Francisco late Monday afternoon.

According to local media, the shooter is believed to be a current or former nursing student at Oikos University, an Asian Christian vocational school in Oakland that offers degrees in theology and nursing. The gunman allegedly opened fire at around 10:30 a.m. local time in a classroom on the school's East Oakland campus.

Authorities announced Monday afternoon that they had taken a suspect into custody who they believe to be the gunman. No motive has yet been reported.

Law enforcement officials declined to provide an official tally of the dead and injured for much of the afternoon as reports began suggesting that the death toll included multiple victims. Oakland City Council President Larry Reid told KGO-TV Monday afternoon that police had told him that at least six people were killed. Earlier in the day, ABC News noted that aerial video taken of the scene showed at least five bodies laid out under sheets on the school lawn.

The Oikos University website describes the school as a place where students can "obtain a Christian education that is based on solid Christian doctrine and ideology."
