Some extraordinarily lucky people in Kansas, Illinois, and Maryland must be having the best Saturday of their lives. Lottery officials announced that each state sold one of the three winning tickets that will share the record $640 million Mega Millions jackpot. Each ticket is expected to be worth around $213 million before taxes, reports the Associated Press.

The winning numbers were 2, 4, 23, 38, 46, and Mega Ball 23. At least some of the winners show that leaving it all to chance seems to work best. The Illinois winner, who bought his ticket in Red Bull, won with a quick pick ticket, reports the Chicago Tribune. The lucky ticket-holder in Maryland also selected the numbers randomly, reports the Baltimore Sun.

The previous record jackpot totaled $390 million, which was split two ways in 2007. Mega Millions fever struck across the country as hopefuls sunk more than $1.5 billion into the system for a chance at the jackpot, notes the AP.
