Alec Baldwin and his Twitter account are at it again.
The 30 Rock star has political websites abuzz after he went on a Twitter rant over the weekend, during which he labeled Republican Sen. Jim Inhofe an "oil whore" who "has betrayed every man and woman who lost their livelihood on the Gulf due to BP’s overwhelming negligence."
Baldwin didn't stop there, later publicly messaging actor Matthew Modine and another person that "We need to have Inhofe retire to a solar-powered gay bar."
As The Hill reminds us, Inhofe is a strong ally of oil-and-gas producers and the top Republican on the Senate's Environment and Public Works Committee. Unsurprisingly, he's a major recipient of campaign donates from that sector.
While it is unclear what exactly prompted Baldwin's outburst, Politico points out that his "use of the word 'whore' can be expected to draw plenty of negative feedback and comparisons to radio host Rush Limbaugh calling Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke a 'slut' and 'prostitute' last month."
Inhofe’s camp has since quipped back, with a spokesman writing in an email to reporters on Monday:
These kind of outrageous statements made recently on Twitter by Robert Kennedy Jr. and Alec Baldwin stand in stark contrast to the civil debate Sen. Inhofe had with Rachel Maddow last week. In truth, the far left and Hollywood elites have lost on their pet cause of global warming. The only way to get attention these days is to make outlandish and irresponsible comments on Twitter.
The spokesman was referring to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s tweet last month in which he labeled Inhofe "big oil’s top call girl."
The weekend's Twitter rant wasn't the first time that Baldwin has created a media stir with the help of social media. The actor tweeted about getting kicked off a domestic flight back in December for refusing to turn off his mobile phone. He then announced he was going to quit Twitter, but returned in full force to his over 776,000 followers just a month later.
