In a development that greatly increases the chances we all will be contacted by our work IT team: Rick Santorum on Friday detailed his plans to crack down on hardcore pornography, something he says has resulted in "a pandemic of harm" in the United States.
The GOP hopeful unveiled his plan via a statement on his website, touting research that purports to show porn can cause "profound brain changes in both children and adults" and explaining that, if elected, he would "vigorously" enforce federal obscenity laws.
The former senator also went one step further, accusing President Obama of ignoring the laws that are on the books, and of appearing to "favor pornographers over children and families."
The attention-grabbing statement is sure to add to his rep as a social conservative and comes as he continues to focus on social issues at a time when most Americans view the economy as the nation's primary concern.
As the New York Daily News reminds us, Michele Bachmann also signed a pledge to ban pornography during her now-abandoned White House run, while Mitt Romney refused to sign the same pledge.
