House Speaker John Boehner spoke with the Wall Street Journal’'s Peggy Noonan and implied there are some members of Congress who should not be in leadership positions. “We got some of the smartest people in the country who serve here, and some of the dumbest,” Boehner said. “We got some of the best people you'd ever meet, and some of the raunchiest.”

Politico's Mike Allen explains Boehner spoke to Noonan as a way of “getting a jump on Matt Bai’s coming tick-tock for the New York Times Magazine about the collapse of the ‘grand bargain’ on the debt ceiling.” Boehner tells Noonan that Obama was to blame for the collapse of negotiations because he “moved the goalposts, and blew up negotiations about the debt deal.” Boehner insists that while the administration “spun this thing that I walked away from this,” it was the president who “lost his courage.”

Boehner insists that he gets along “fine” with the president. “But boy do we have big differences.”
