Here's a bizarre one: Someone sent more than 35 pounds of cocaine to the United Nations headquarters in New York, inside a bag that vaguely resembled a diplomatic pouch.
The New York Police Department revealed the rather odd case on Thursday. CNN reports that the package was discovered Jan. 16 at the U.N.'s postal center. Inside the "diplomatic pouch," which was not marked with a destination return address, were hollowed-out books filled with the narcotics.
Apparently, the fake pouch wasn't very convincing: The bags were only marked with a U.N. seal, missing the text and dark blue stripe that authentic versions of the bag display, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The package came from Mexico City, but police haven't said they know anything else about who sent the package, why, or where it was supposed to end up.
