Michele Bachmann will run for re-election, the Minnesota congresswoman announced Wednesday.

The former GOP presidential hopeful broke the news in an interview with the Associated Press. "I’m looking forward to coming back and bringing a strong, powerful voice to Washington, D.C.," Bachmann said.

Some observers had wondered aloud whether Bachmann would look to return to the House of Representatives for a fourth term after her failed bid for the Republican nomination boosted her national profile and seemingly opened the door for other opportunities, both in politics and punditry.

Some insiders had speculated that she could look to challenge Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar in November, but recent polls suggest that she'd have an uphill battle to win a campaign against the popular freshman senator. As The Hill points out, Bachmann returns to Minnesota from the presidential campaign trail with an approval rating of only 34 percent in her home state.
