Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson will drop out of the GOP presidential race and instead seek the Libertarian Party nomination, Politico reports.

The move doesn’t really come as a surprise (be honest, you forgot Johnson was even running for the GOP nomination) but, nonetheless, it does add another potential wrinkle to the general election and will give Americans one more choice when they cast their ballots in November. (Americans Elect is also making progress with it’s third-party campaign.)

Johnson hasn't made the announcement official yet—that will come at a Dec. 28 press conference, at which he’ll change his voter registration from Republican to Libertarian—but Libertarian Party Chairman Mark Hinkle went ahead and spilled the beans, calling it "the worst kept secret."
