Rick Perry sat down with the editorial board of the Des Moines Register on Friday. As you'll see below, the interview didn't go particularly well, at least in terms of showing off the GOP hopeful's Supreme Court knowledge.

The Texan's first slip-up came when he blanked on the name of Justice Sonia Sotomayor ("Not Montemayor," Perry says before a reporter interrupts to offer the correct name.) The Republican governor then followed that up by miscounting the number of Supreme Court justices.

The liberal Think Progress quickly posted the videos to its website, and ABC News and others around the Web quickly followed up with their own posts.

Here's the Sotomayor flub:

And then his "eight unelected judges" comment (there are in fact nine justices):

Perry's wife, Anita, recently offered this quote to the Christian Broadcasting Network on her husband's gaffe-prone public comments: "I pray for him to have strength and wisdom and for the right words to come out of his mouth and to be patient because we're not on his timetable, we're on God's timetable."
