Apple will reportedly release its latest iPhone by the end of this summer, and the latest incarnation of the company's iconic smart phone will come complete with an upgraded processor and camera.

As with everything Apple boss Steven Jobs thinks of (the MacBook, the iPad, the office), nearly everyone in the tech world is already salivating at its release. Exactly when that will come, however, remains uncertain. Bloomberg, citing unidentified sources, says that the phone will be released sometime in September. But consumer tech blog Boy Genious Reports and others have their money on an August unveiling.

According to Bloomberg’s secret sources, the iPhone 5 will have the same, faster processor as the iPad 2 and an 8-megapixel camera (upgraded from 5-megapixel in the last model). The International Business Times, meanwhile, says that with an enlarged home button, edge-to edge screen and rounded glass, the iPhone 5’s new design is “conspicuously different” from previous models.

As Apple’s biggest seller, the iPhone has contributed one-fourth of Apple’s revenue last quarter, a trend most likely to continue. Get ready for some long lines. And let’s hope that no more fingers will be lost in the name of Apple gadgets, as in the Colorado iPad theft earlier this year.
