Wal-Mart Tops Fortune 500 List, Again

Big-box retailer is followed by trio of oil companies.

Wal-Mart topped Fortune magazine’s latest list of the highest-grossing U.S. companies, the second year in a row that the retailer took the Fortune 500’s top spot and the eighth time in the past decade.

A trio of oil giants came next. Exxon Mobil and Chevron ranked no. 2 and no. 3, respectively, the same spots they held in the list’s previous edition. ConocoPhillips jumped up two spots to no. 4.

Fannie Mae rounded out the top five, jumping a whopping 76 places from last year’s list. Freddie Mac also climbed in the rankings, moving up 34 spots to 20th.
