Enter Newt Gingrich.

The former House speaker will formally throw his hat into the ring for the Republican presidential nomination by the end of next week, his spokesman tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Gingrich is slated to address Georgia Republicans at their state meeting next Friday, May 13. By then, “he’ll be a candidate,” Gingrich spokesman Rick Tyler told the paper.

The current field of Republican presidential candidates remains largely undefined, with many voters struggling to find a candidate they are eager to support.

In the latest Fox News poll, Gingrich tied for fifth with Rep. Ron Paul.

Gingrich—like most Republican contenders—will not be taking part in the opening debate of the GOP primary contest, which is slated for Thursday.
