Drinking Cuts Men's Risk of Heart Disease
A Spanish study that involved more than 15,500 men and 26,000 women found that drinking alcohol every day cuts the risk of heart disease by 35 percent or more in men. But not so if you're a women, who didn't see as great a benefit from alcohol. Men who drank a little bit every day—less than a shot of vodka—saw their risk reduced by 35 percent while those who drank "anything from three shots to more than 11 shots each day" saw an average of 50 percent less risk. Experts were quick to criticize the study, saying that excessive drinking can cause a range of other diseases and warned that no one should see it as permission to start drinking heavily.
