Kindle Goes Global (and Gets Cheaper)
Amazon has announced that it will launch the international version of the Kindle 2 on Oct. 19, using an AT&T SIM card to allow customers to take the device all over the world. "At home or abroad in over 100 countries, you can think of a book and download it wirelessly in less than 60 seconds," Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos gloated in a press statement yesterday. Additionally, Amazon has decided to drop the price of its domestic version from $299 to $259, with the international version selling for $279. Gizmodo notes that the "bonus price" is a $2 fee for purchasing books when traveling abroad. Aside from these changes, the model looks pretty similar to the previous version.
