Op-Ed: Netanyahu Cheapens Holocaust
Gideon Levy criticizes Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for mentioning Nazis so frequently during his speech at the United Nations yesterday. In an attempt to fire back against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's Holocaust denials the previous day, Netanyahu held up proof of its existence, including a blueprint for Auschwitz. "Is there a need of proof, 60 years later?" writes Levy. "Or, the world might think, is the denier right?" Levy says Netanyahu once again "cheapened the memory of the holocaust" by comparing Hamas to the Nazis and equating the rockets that Hamas fires into Israel to the London Blitz. "[I]f we can compare a poorly equipped terrorist organization to the horrific Nazi killing machine, why should others not compare the Nazis' behavior to that of Israel Defense Forces soldiers?" asks Levy. "In both cases, the comparison is baseless and infuriating."
