4. Half of Madoff Clients Technically Made Money
Roughly half of Bernard Madoff's clients actually made money from the financier's Ponzi scheme, federal prosecutors said Tuesday. These clients, the prosecutors noted in a court filing, withdrew more money from their Madoff accounts than they had initially invested. The data come from a review of "most accounts" of people who had investments with Madoff when he was arrested, according to the Associated Press. New York magazine takes the leap: "[W]e think this might mean that Bernie Madoff is 50 percent less evil,"
the magazine's Daily Intel blog posits. "Like, he's still half-Satan, but he's also just half the guy who takes an extra stack of $500 bills during Monopoly."
